Town of Milford receives draft EPA NPDES Discharge Permit and provides comments.
August 2020
MWUD solicits for engineering qualifications, conducts interviews, and selects Hoyle, Tanner & Associates, Inc. to help meet the new permit requirements.
November 1, 2020
New EPA NPDES Permit becomes effective and includes timeline (54 months) to comply with advanced treatment requirements.

March 2021
Engineering study begins to assess treatment alternatives to remove phosphorous and metals from the wastewater.
July-August 2021
Conducted pilot study of three treatment technologies at the WWTF to meet advanced treatment requirements.
September-October 2021
MWUD staff tour facilities in New England using the advanced treatment processes piloted at the Milford WWTF.
December 2021
90% Basis of Design report for advanced treatment process submitted to Milford Water Utilities and NHDES for review and comment.

February-March 2022
MWUD applies for ARPA Grant funds and receives $520,000 to support wastewater studies and preliminary design work.
April 2022
Advanced process selection decision made, and design of advanced treatment process begins. Additional needs (age-related) identified by MWUD staff; study initiated to assess other major process elements at the Milford WWTF.
May-June 2022
MWUD applied for NHDES low interest loan funds; and for an ARPA Planning Grant to study the additional needs.
June 4, 2022
First open house/public tours at the Milford WWTF.
August 2022
Milford approved for borrowing from the State of New Hampshire low interest loan program; Milford approved for $100,000 planning grant to study the additional needs at the WWTF.
October 1, 2022
Second open house/public tours at the Milford WWTF.
October 8 & 9, 2022
Hosted a booth at Pumpkinfest to inform residents about the WWTF Upgrade project and answer any questions.

60% Basis of Design Report on additional needs submitted to MWUD and NHDES.
